52-Week Challenge: Week Thirty-Three

This week's challenge is to pick a hobby and enjoy it (or a variety of hobbies) at least once a week.  Although hobbies may seem like a waste of time, studies have shown that participating in activities just for the pure joy of it--no strings attached--helps reduce stress levels.  Hobbies have also been shown to ward off the mental effects of aging because they exercise the brain and help keep it stimulated.  In addition, hobbies can help you stay physically fit (if the hobby is a physical one), develop new skills, make new friends, and build stronger professional and social networks.

I'm sure most of you already have hobbies.  If you don't, take a minute to think about what you'd enjoy doing--again, no strings attached.  What would you want to do purely for the fun of it?  What would make you feel like a kid again?  There are all different categories of hobbies, each with an endless possibility within it.  Here are just a few examples:

Arts and Crafts:  candle making, painting, photography, scrapbooking, sewing
Music:  composition, singing, playing an instrument
Performing Arts:  acting, dance, magic
Writing:  blogging, playwriting, creative writing
Sports:  cycling, skating, tennis, swimming
Martial Arts:  karate, tae kwon do, jujitsu
Outdoor Rec:  fishing, hiking, scuba, skiing
Personal Fitness:  pilates, yoga, running
Food and Beverage:  beer brewing, cooking, wine tasting
Games:  cards, chess, puzzles

Good luck, and have fun!
